Adolescent Pregnancy in Lampung Province (Analysis The Indonesian Survey Status Nutrition Data of 2022)
Abstract
Purpose: This study aimed to identify the factors influencing adolescent pregnancy in Lampung Province using data from the 2022 Indonesian National Nutrition Status Survey (SSGI), with a particular focus on the role of educational level.
Literature Review: Adolescent pregnancy remains a significant public health concern because it is associated with increased maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality, school dropout, psychological problems, and limited socioeconomic opportunities. Previous studies have consistently identified low educational attainment as one of the strongest predictors of early pregnancy due to limited reproductive health knowledge and reduced access to health information.
Methodology: A quantitative cross-sectional design was employed using secondary data from the 2022 SSGI, involving 1,828 women who experienced their first pregnancy between the ages of 12 and 19 years. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and binary logistic regression.
Results: The findings revealed a significant association between educational level and adolescent pregnancy (p = 0.043; OR = 0.292; 95% CI: 0.089–0.960), indicating that adolescents with only basic education were more likely to experience early pregnancy than those with higher educational attainment.
Conclusions: Low educational level is an important determinant of adolescent pregnancy in Lampung Province.
Recommendations: Strengthening access to quality education, implementing comprehensive sexuality and reproductive health education in schools, and expanding community-based reproductive health promotion programs are recommended to reduce adolescent pregnancy.
Additional: Future research should investigate other contributing factors, such as socioeconomic status, early marriage, family support, contraceptive use, and access to reproductive health services, using longitudinal study designs to better establish causal relationships.
